I Maestri del colore is a group show by the five artists currently represented by the gallery: João Freitas, Mirthe Klück, Marco Andrea Magni, Oscar Abraham Pabón, and Eugenia Vanni. It revolves closely around an issue dear to all of them, although it is developed according to very different technical and conceptual prerogatives: monochrome.
The origins of the show go even further back; when we asked Francesco Carone, who is above all a friend, what the ideal way might be to distribute and take advantage of our space, in accordance with criteria of aesthetics and functionality.
Carone replied by offering us a title, and a 'vision' structured in such a way as to invite the viewer to reflect on the works, and on the time and the form in which they are to be approached, studied, and contemplated. In doing so, he abandoned himself to the principle of continuity, and to the recurrent constants of the universal itinerary of art and, finally, in more practical terms, resolving the dialectic between container and content.
The contemplation of colour as pure form is an exercise in conceptual asceticism that begins from a vision, and leads to an object that is the opposite of a mystical object, ascending from the merely physical and material to an intuition.
In pure colour the octaves of figuration resonate; although colour is an accident of form, in monochrome it is elevated to the status of a substance without accompanying attributes.
The show will be followed by a short series of solo shows that will display in more detail the work of each individual artist, starting with the monochrome work presented in I Maestri del Colore. As such, the process will, in a certain sense, constitute an act of creation in itself, beginning with the germination of a work, and developing into a new show, each time.
